The Digital Street, London
This project focusses on the ‘social’ aspects of Bromley-by-Bow, London. It has become isolated and holds little public space for physical interaction. In order to pull the public out of their 'isolated digital realms', the intervention embraces the advances of technology by creating a new social street, spanning across a neglected are of the canal, holding virtual, digital and physical spaces focussing on the arts.
This programme was determined through an exercise titled 'Face-Time'. I identified existing public spaces, created a pre-determined route and at each location, interviewed members of the public who were in conversation.
Frank Jacobs, a local resident for over 40 years brought the most insightful narrative. He spoke of the freedom that existed in the past - when children plated in the streets together - that is no longer.
